AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF MADISON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AND THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF RIDGELAND, MISSISSIPPI, TO ENTER INTO AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT FOR THE PROVISION OF JOINT POLICE PROTECTION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT WITHIN THE RIGHTS-OF-WAY OF CERTAIN ROADS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Madison County, Mississippi, and the governing authorities of the City of Ridgeland, Mississippi, are authorized and empowered, in their discretion, to enter into an interlocal agreement pursuant to the provisions of Sections 17-13-9, et seq. for the provision of police protection and law enforcement within the rights-of-way of:

          (a)  North Livingston Road from the right-of-way of the Natchez Trace Parkway in a northerly direction to its intersection with Lake Castle Road; and

          (b)  Lake Castle Road from its intersection with North Livingston Road in an easterly direction to its intersection with the eastern city limits of the City of Ridgeland.

     (2)  An interlocal agreement undertaken pursuant to this act shall make the following provisions concerning violations occurring within the area subject to the agreement:

          (a)  Joint or several enforcement of all penal laws of the State of Mississippi which are misdemeanors and all penal laws of the State of Mississippi on the portion of Lake Castle Road that is within the City of Ridgeland which are misdemeanors made a violation of city ordinance by operation of the provisions of Section 27-13-19; and

          (b)  Any actions reasonably necessary to provide police protection and law enforcement pursuant to the agreement.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
