AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT NO PERSON OR ENTITY SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO SELL OR OTHERWISE DISTRIBUTE A DOOR DECAL LOGO OR PATCH OF A DIVISION OF THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY WITHOUT THE WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE DIVISION DIRECTOR AND THE COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC SAFETY; TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT TO MAINTAIN A CURRENT LIST OF APPROVALS; TO PROHIBIT THE DEPARTMENT FROM UNREASONABLY WITHHOLDING APPROVAL FOR ANY CURRENT EMPLOYEE OF THE DEPARTMENT; TO PROVIDE CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) No person or entity shall be authorized to sell or otherwise distribute a door decal logo or patch of a division of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety without the written approval of the division director and the Commissioner of Public Safety.
(2) The department shall maintain a current list of any written approvals. The written approvals may be rescinded at any time. Approval shall not be unreasonably withheld for any current employee of the department.
(3) A violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor. Upon conviction, a person may be punished per occurrence for a term of imprisonment of up to forty-eight (48) hours in the county jail and a fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2025.
