WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on February 28, 2013, the mortal, beloved presence of Mrs. Mattie Scott Pace was summoned to eternal rest as she made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mattie Scott Pace was born on July 20, 1910, as the seventh child of the late Sam and Mattie Taylor of Macon, Mississippi, in Noxubee County; and
WHEREAS, "And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?", Mrs. Pace was converted, baptized and united with the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Thomas White of Indianola, Mississippi, on August 14, 1923; and
WHEREAS, a true servant of God, she served as church secretary for many years before continuing her faithful Christian dedication as a member of Bethlehem No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Sammie L. Scott, where she remained active until her death; and
WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to the late William Scott and later married Hurchel D. Pace; and
WHEREAS, four of her children preceded her in death; left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are: two sons, Charles and William; four daughters, Willie Mae, Ruby, Juanita and Mattie Jean; four special sons, Johnny Taylor, Kelly, Jimmy and Dorsey; five special daughters, Ivy Lue, Betty Lue, Sarah, Vivian and Eunice; one brother, Nehemiah; 26 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and
WHEREAS, in Mrs. Pace's transfiguration from mortality to immortality, she now adorns the raiment of a spiritual bride awaiting the bridegroom's return in holy anticipation of that wondrous event, as it is written in the book of Revelation 21:1-2, "And I saw a new Heaven and a new earth: for the first Heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a magnificent individual as Mrs. Mattie Scott Pace, whose light radiated the presence of the Father, which is in Heaven, and whose presence will be sorely missed as she was the salt of the earth:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Mattie Scott Pace and express sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Mattie Scott Pace and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
