A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. W.J. "BOY" HOWARD AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE CELEBRATION OF HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mr. W.J. "Boy" Howard of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, is celebrating the blessed milestone of the occasion of his 100th birthday on July 25, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard has seen America change from primarily an agricultural society to an advanced technological and industrial giant during his lifetime, and on his watch has observed the actions of numerous United States Presidents and Mississippi Governors; and

     WHEREAS, the oldest of five children, Mr. Howard was born to a loving family and he was given the nickname "Boy" which has stuck with him ever since; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard received his formal education from Crystal Springs High School in Copiah County, Mississippi, where he was a basketball player; and

     WHEREAS, as a child, Mr. Howard enjoyed working on the crops with his father on their farm west of Crystal Springs, and during World War II, he worked as a mechanic at the Jackson International Airport; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard and Louise Harrell were united in matrimonial bonds in 1943, and they shared a wonderful marriage full of love, respect and honor until her passing away; and

     WHEREAS, after the death of his first wife and at life's intersection of love and affection, the Lord sent Mr. Howard the love of his life in the person of Leone Davis, and they were married and had three children; and

     WHEREAS, beginning in 1945, Mr. Howard and his brother dutifully served in many farming capacities, including growing tomatoes, cabbage, beans and bell peppers; and

     WHEREAS, later, in 1946, Mr. Howard's farm took on 15 head of cattle and grew the herd to an amazing 200 cows; and

     WHEREAS, in 1963, the brothers began raising broilers in the poultry industry for Sanderson Farms; and 

     WHEREAS, in the year 2000, Mr. Howard finally retired from farming at the age of 90, enjoys life and lives it stoically and with a great sense of pride; and

     WHEREAS, known for steadfast service to his community, Mr. Howard believes service to others to be rewarding, and he has taught others that serving pays off; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Howard always put his family, farm and community first and places himself a distant second in his daily life without complaint; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize the life of such an astonishingly noble, experienced and temperate soul as Mr. W.J. "Boy" Howard:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby acknowledge and commend the life of Mr. W.J. "Boy" Howard, congratulate him upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th birthday and extend warmest wishes for many more years of good health, love and peace.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. W.J. Howard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
