A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER OF MAYOR JIMMY CLYDE UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MAGEE.

     WHEREAS, after 42 years of service to the City of Magee, Mayor Jimmy Clyde has decided not to run again for the office of mayor in the upcoming municipal elections; and

     WHEREAS, Mayor Clyde said the decision not to run again has not been an easy one after serving as mayor for 20 years, but he has been in thoughtful prayer for a long time and felt that now was the time to step down; and

     WHEREAS, Mayor Clyde's last official day in office will be June 30, 2017, which is the last day of office for the sitting board of officials; and

     WHEREAS, Mayor Clyde has worked for the city since 1975, and prior to serving as its mayor he worked as city clerk of Magee for 22 years; and

     WHEREAS, in recognition of his extraordinary mayoral career, the Mississippi Municipal League recently elected Mr. Clyde as its president and he will serve out the remainder of his term through June; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the City of Magee, Mayor Clyde has served on a number of organizations that promote the city and state including the Mississippi Municipal Service Company, Mississippi Municipal Workers Compensation Group, Central Mississippi Mayor's Association and the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Clyde is an active member of First Baptist Church of Magee, and has taught a Sunday School class for over 25 years in addition to being a deacon and church clerk; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the careers of outstanding public servants, such as Jimmy Clyde, whose dedication to the citizens of Magee will be remembered long after he steps down:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the career of Jimmy Clyde upon his retirement as Mayor of the City of Magee after 20 years, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mayor Jimmy Clyde and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
