House Resolution 75

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND RECOGNIZING THE COURAGE, BRAVERY AND VALIANT SERVICE OF SERGEANT C.B. MCLEMORE DURING WORLD WAR II AND AS A MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROLMAN FOR 32 YEARS.

WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. C.B. McLemore, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, born on December 13, 1920, in Soso, Mississippi, Mr. McLemore was born to protect and serve his country in any way he could, and after graduating from Agricola School in George County, Mississippi, he served for a short time at a paper mill in Mobile, Alabama, before embarking upon his life's journey of protecting the democracy of the western world and providing peace and tranquility at home; and

WHEREAS, on June 17, 1942, after the relations between the United States and the hostile Axis Powers had diminished and caused Lady Liberty to engage the extremist regime in World War II, a young and altruistic C.B. McLemore joined the ranks of an elite fraternity of airmen in the United States Army Air Corps, which patriotically served their country during that atrocious war; and

WHEREAS, when Mr. McLemore nobly put his life on the line to protect the freedoms of all Americans and rescue Western Europe from Nazi control, he did so aboard a B-24 Liberator based in the Galapagos Islands as a radar observer with a mission to search for submarines; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McLemore was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945, with the elite rank of sergeant, and it was his unceasing gallantry and indomitable valor during the war that earned him the American Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal, two of the most prestigious and esteemed awards a fearless combatant can receive; and

WHEREAS, after facilitating victory for the United States in World War II, the heroic veteran shifted from an invaluable sergeant to a priceless contributor to his community when he attended Highway Patrol School at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, in June 1946, and after Sergeant McLemore graduated training school, he was consumed with nothing but courage and fortitude as he vowed to protect the citizens of Quitman, Warren, Tunica, Tate and Webster Counties from danger and shield them from the fear of lawlessness; and

WHEREAS, "Virtute et Armis" means "by valor and arms" and dons the badge insignia of each Mississippi Highway Patrol uniform, a uniform that Sergeant McLemore heroically served in for 32 years, and after he was appointed Inspector to District 5 in Starkville, Mississippi, he retired from that position on October 13, 1978; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant McLemore spent the lighter days of rest and relaxation that accompany retirement in Eupora, Mississippi, where he was an active and faithful member of the United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant C.B. McLemore's unflinching courage and bravery reflect lasting glory upon himself and uphold the noble traditions of the infantry and the military service, and the memory of Sergeant McLemore, a man held in the highest regard by friends and family as an inspiring and precious gift from God, will continue to refresh the hearts and memories of his beloved survivors; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor heroic Mississippians such as Sergeant C.B. McLemore for his dauntless fortitude and his remarkable dedication to the United States of America and the people of the State of Mississippi, who are eternally appreciative, for without Mr. McLemore, the freedom they know and love would not be possible:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and recognize the courage, bravery and valiant service of Sergeant C.B. McLemore during World War II and as a Mississippi Highway Patrolman for 32 years and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Sergeant C.B. McLemore and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
