House Resolution 73

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JORDAN NICHOLAS JOHNSON, A SEVENTH GRADER AT BYRAM MIDDLE SCHOOL, FOR HIS ACADEMIC SUCCESS UPON MAKING A COMPOSITE SCORE OF 22 ON THE ACT AT 12 YEARS OF AGE.

WHEREAS, Jordan Nicholas Johnson, a seventh grader at Byram Middle School and the son of Captain B.F. Johnson of the City of Jackson Fire Department and Nikki Dulaney-Johnson, an employee of Clear Channel Radio, demonstrated his academic success by making a composite score of 22 on the ACT at 12 years of age; and

WHEREAS, understanding the importance of education for his future success, Jordan has diligently prepared himself, through school and extracurricular work, to thrive in the academic arena; and

WHEREAS, now 13 years of age and the youngest of three boys, Jordan has not only emulated his successful, hardworking parents, but he also strives to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Javian, a 20-year-old student in his third year at Belhaven University, and his brother, Jarrett, a 19-year-old student in his sophomore year at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, Jordan is a member of Stronger Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where he proudly participates in the youth choir and mime ministry at the church led by the Reverend Dr. R.K. Moore; and

WHEREAS, as an active student at Byram Middle School, Jordan is a member of the Beta Club, a first chair trumpet player in the school band, and a member of the football and track teams, and he also is a member of the defending 2010 District Champion Terry Titans Football Team and the Forest Hill Youth Club Baseball Team, with his goal being to one day hit a home run; and

WHEREAS, though still finding time to enjoy his PlayStation 3, Jordan's love for reading likely aided him in scoring well on the ACT, and he is teaching himself to play the piano in an effort to become an even more well-rounded, talented young man; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend and congratulate impressive youth, such as Jordan Johnson, whose drive to succeed in life through the attainment of high academic success is an inspiration to other youth in his community and the youth of the State of Mississippi, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jordan Nicholas Johnson, a seventh grader at Byram Middle School, for his academic success upon making a composite score of 22 on the ACT at 12 years of age, and extend best wishes for his continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jordan Johnson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
