A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RAYMOND HIGH SCHOOL RANGERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, after their third trip to the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Championship in five years under Head Coach Robert Green, the Raymond High School Rangers Boys Basketball Team made the most of their opportunity, beating Leake Central 52-46 and claiming the 4A title; and
WHEREAS, the Rangers brought home their first championship win since 1999, but Green said it has been something they expected because the talent they displayed all year long prepared them for the moment, and all they had to do was take it; and
WHEREAS, going into the break, the Rangers went to the locker room up 22-16, and although Leake Central did a great job staying within six points of them, the Rangers poured it on after the break and never looked back; and
WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with all players knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and
WHEREAS, the Rangers championship team is comprised of the following hard working and dedicated young men: Keyundrea Downs, Tremayne Watts, Keivonte Watts, Tavian Coleman, Cameron Woodall, Jiris Killingsworth, DeMarius Daniels, SharDarrion Allen, TraDavis Thompson, JeKeivious Williams, Girrod Harris, Jared Keyes, Alvin Brown and Jakorie Smith; and
WHEREAS, the Rangers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Robert Green and Assistant Coach Terrell Anderson, who have broadened the Rangers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Rangers, whose excellence on and off the court brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Raymond High School Rangers Boys Basketball Team upon winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Robert Green on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
