A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. PORTER "BO DOLLAR" HUBBARD AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Mr. Porter "Bo Dollar" Hubbard, born on August 17, 1945, to the late Mary Jackson Johnson and Joe Clay, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the age of 65, to enter into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, having accepted Christ as his Lord and personal Savior at an early age, "Bo Dollar," as he was affectionately called, united with Glenn Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where he remained in fellowship before later uniting in the covenant of worship with Zion Gate Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership and spiritual counsel of the Reverend Dr. James A. Boyd; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of R.F. Hunt High School and a United States Army veteran, Mr. Hubbard was a business-minded individual who, as an entrepreneur, operated his own transportation company and was the predecessor to lay the foundation for many black-owned business developments in the area, as the first African American to operate a public bus line in the City of Columbus, Mississippi, in addition to later operating business establishments as a bail bondsman and auto repair shop; and
WHEREAS, a long-serving employee with the Columbus Public Schools as a school bus driver, "Bo Dollar" was fortunate to experience life without limits, that became all the more meaningful when the purposed design for his life by the Great Creator was fulfilled in April 1970, when he united in the holy bonds of wedded matrimony with Patricia Hubbard, with whom he shared more than 40 years of marital bliss and blessings; and
WHEREAS, actively engaged in the civic and social involvements of the community, Mr. Hubbard was a member of the T.P. Harris Elks Lodge No. 1495, which organization allowed him to serve in the capacity of state district deputy, and a member of the Thunderbolts Club; and
WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to now stand upon the celestial shores of Heaven to behold all of its glory and splendor, as he has answered life's summons to the here ever after, the legacy of his memory will continue to enrich the lives of his loving survivors who cherish the legacy imparted into each of them; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a warm and gentle spirit as Mr. Hubbard, whose life was a ray of inspiration for all of those privileged to have met his acquaintance and share in his friendship:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. Porter "Bo Dollar" Hubbard and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Hubbard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
