A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED AND ESTEEMED CAREER OF MR. LARRY GREEN AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS SUPERINTENDENT OF THE WESTERN LINE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Mr. Larry Green has been a steward of state services, with a total of 46 years devoted to the public education system, 30 years of which he has served in the capacity as school superintendent, making him the longest serving school district superintendent in the State of Mississippi and the longest serving superintendent in the history of the Western Line School District with 27 years of reputable service to his credit; and
WHEREAS, with six years of service on the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents Board of Directors, eight years on the Mississippi Association of School Administrators (MASA) Board of Directors, eight years on the Mississippi High School Activities Association Legislative Council and 12 years on the Delta Area Association for the Improvement of Schools Board of Directors, Mr. Green's superintendence has spanned the course of six United States Presidents, five Mississippi Governors and six State Superintendents of Public Education; and
WHEREAS, a consecutive eleven-time recipient of Superintendent of the Year honors by the Mississippi School Board Association, five-year superintendent honoree by the Delta Area Superintendent Association and Mississippi's Superintendent of the Year for 2016 selected by MASA to represent Mississippi at the state and national levels, Mr. Green, has also served as President of the Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools (DAAIS) and the Delta Area School Board Association; and
WHEREAS, having overseen 20 new buildings and facility renovations throughout the district, which has resulted in greatly improved teaching and learning environments for teachers and students alike, Superintendent Green was selected as a Delta Light for 2017 by the Cary Christian Center for his selfless service and many sacrifices for the citizens of the Mississippi Delta; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Green has led the charge for the Western Line School District in establishing a model transportation program, financial management, technology innovation, academic achievement, and a consistently high expectation level for the district; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the esteemed works of such remarkable educators whose passion for academics has been the makings of phenomenal results of molding the minds of the state's children in efforts to promote academic success, professionalism and productive citizens of society:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished and esteemed career of Mr. Larry Green and congratulate him upon the most auspicious occasion of his retirement as superintendent of the Western Line School District.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Larry Green, the Western Line School District School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
