A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OUR LADY ACADEMY CRESCENTS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH ANDIE THORNTON FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011-2012 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A/2A/3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Our Lady Academy Crescents Soccer Team finished the 2011-2012 season by emerging victorious with the 2012 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A/2A/3A Girls Soccer Championship title; and
WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined young ladies, the Crescents performed extremely well in the 2011-2012 state playoffs, defeating the Bulldogs of Clarkdale High School with a score of 5-0 in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship game on the rain-soaked fields of Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in becoming the 2012 MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A Girls Soccer State Champions, the Crescents invested countless measures of hard work above and beyond the level of other teams, having begun this effort in the late summer months and continuing through early February; and
WHEREAS, with this latest championship title, the Crescents now hold the bragging rights of an impressive three consecutive state championship titles, and add to the trophy case at Our Lady Academy their tenth state soccer championship in 13 years; and
WHEREAS, the Crescents have been superbly coached and inspired throughout the season by Head Coach Andie Thornton; and
WHEREAS, the Crescents finished out their season with an overall record of 19-3-3 and an incredible overall state ranking of seventh; and
WHEREAS, the 2011-2012 Crescents roster is comprised of the following athletes: Mattison Scardino, Gloria Carniero, Tiffany Jones, Ashleigh Hoda, Sarah Rimmer, Tricia Williams, Sofia Taconi, Lyndsey Lee, Jenny Bryne, Georgia Williams, Colleen Rafferty, Maycee Scardino, Holland Murphree, Savannah Lacoste, Maddie Casey, Maggie Kowalski, Lauren Lawhead, Blake Stefano, Brooke Thomas, Brittany Laurent, Laura Taylor, Shelby McConnell, Abby Gollott, Victoria Power, Demi Blaker, Brittany Gough and Liza Rittiner; and
WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Crescents have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect greatly upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to Our Lady Academy; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, such as the outstanding athletes of the Our Lady Academy Crescents Soccer Team, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Our Lady Academy Crescents Soccer Team and Head Coach Andie Thornton for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A/2A/3A Girls Soccer Championship title and extend best wishes to the players for continued success in all of their future academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Thornton, Principal Tiffany Lindmark and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
