WHEREAS, both the Bears and Lady Bears finished the season with an impressive 9-1 record, and the school's eighth graders wrapped up their junior high school careers with a combined 48-4 record and four championship trophies, with the Bears suffering just one loss in 26 games over the past two seasons; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bears blew past the Clara Whippets in the semifinal matchup, winning the game by a score of 35-26 and punching their ticket to the finals, with their victory highlighted by several standout performances including McKay Lee Bray's 18 points, four steals and three rebounds, Kayla Courtney's 12 points, Katie Byrd's four points and six rebounds, and Ti'Egypt Winborn's stout defensive play; and

WHEREAS, the championship game was a hotly contested matchup, and although the Bears found themselves down by five to the Bucs with just two minutes remaining, Nathan DeBar's 3-pointer closed the gap to 23-21 and provided a much-needed spark on defense to help the Bears close out the game on a 7-0 run and claim the title for a second straight year with a 30-21 victory; and
