A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. ONELL QUINN MCCREE ON CELEBRATING THE MOST AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER BIRTH ON MARCH 16, 2015.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Onell Quinn McCree, born on March 16, 1925, in Laurel, Mississippi, celebrates the 90th anniversary of her birth on Monday, March 16, 2015, to be commemorated with a celebration held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, acknowledging and honoring her faith and service to her community; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and joined True Light Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she remained a faithful and loyal member until she moved her membership to be with her husband Cornell McCree at Ebenezer Baptist Church, and since then, Mrs. McCree has remained a regular attendee and faithful worshiper of Ebenzer and a member of Mission No. 1, the Mother's Board, Sunday School Class No. 10 and the Outreach Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree, a graduate of Eureka High School, later pursued night courses in Library Science at the University of Southern Mississippi with the goal of helping children and other adults learn as much as they could through reading; and
WHEREAS, in 1991, Mrs. McCree retired from the Hattiesburg Public Library after 33 years of diligent public service; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree has experienced the transformational changes of American society and experienced various moments of iconic history, and today, she continues to rely wholeheartedly on God as the driving force to sustain and motivate her through the circumstances, trials and triumphs of life; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree and her late husband, Cornell, were blessed with two children, Cheyney McCree, Sr., and Yolanda McCree Lucas, as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who are a constant reminder to Mrs. McCree of the joy that life brings; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree now enjoys her leisure time by reading her Bible, cooking, doing crossword puzzles, traveling and spending time with her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McCree is ever grateful for her longevity, and attributes her many years, with many more to come, to clean moral living, being a servant for the Lord and her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such an outstanding individual as Mrs. McCree, who is a pillar of her community and a role model for the citizens of this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Onell Quinn McCree, in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of her birth on March 16, 2015, and express sincere wishes for continued health, joy, peace and prosperity for years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Onell Quinn McCree and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
