A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DUANE R. "DOC" BRADFORD, ORDAINED MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL AND FORMER SHERIFF OF LAWRENCE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Duane R. "Doc" Bradford, 66, ordained minister of the Gospel and longtime law enforcement official, departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 15, 2017, to begin eternal life with his Heavenly Father while yet bringing great sorrow and sense of loss to his family and his host of friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bradford's life was suffused by a great and enduring love for his family and a deep commitment to and love for his God, his country and his community, all of which he shared with others in unique ways; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bradford, who was born on March 5, 1950, in rural Simpson County, Mississippi, to Charles K., Sr., and Inez H. Bradford, graduated from New Hebron High School in New Hebron, Mississippi, during which time he met the love of his life, Wanda Dale Davis, whom he later wed and from whom he remained inseparable for 46 years until his death temporarily parted them; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bradford, during his well-lived life, served as Sheriff of Lawrence County, as an officer with the City of Jackson Police Department, the Florence Police Department, Copiah County Sheriff's Office and the New Hebron Police Department and for the State of Mississippi in other capacities; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bradford, through his ministry, touched and enriched the lives of countless youth, parents and others, among whom his absence will be painfully felt; and

     WHEREAS, the Lawrence County community and the State of Mississippi will miss his multifaceted service; and

     WHEREAS, though Mr. Bradford has completed his earthly journey and now stands on Heaven's golden streets reunited with his beloved daughter, Stacie, the legacy of his life will continue to live and echo in the hearts and lives of his survivors:  beloved wife, Wanda; son, Garrett (Ashley); grandsons, Jace, Landon and Raylan; and a host of friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched and for whom he deeply cared; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of a remarkable individual such as Duane R. "Doc" Bradford, and it is with sadness that we note the passing of this respected and remarkable citizen, faithful husband, God-fearing and loving father and grandfather, who leaves behind such a rich legacy of selfless service to his country and community and we say "Thank You":

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Duane R. "Doc" Bradford, and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Duane R. "Doc" Bradford and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
