A RESOLUTION OBSERVING THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 2026, AS "FACES OF RECOVERY - RECOVERY DAY 2026" AT THE MISSISSIPPI STATE CAPITOL.

WHEREAS, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, hundreds of individuals will descend upon the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi, as friends and supporters of the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project convene for Faces of Recovery - Recovery Day 2026, an annual day set aside to celebrate success, inspire hope and raise awareness about recovery from addiction; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project is a network of individuals from all corners of the State of Mississippi, united in the mutual vein of advocating for recovery policies to address addiction and mental health as a public health issue and prioritize harm reduction; and

WHEREAS, an affiliate of the National Recovery Action Project, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project is committed to giving people in recovery from all recovery pathways, their family members and recovery supporters the tools to think and act at the grassroots level by collaborating with community health and wellness stakeholders to provide support, cooperation and advocacy for individuals in recovery; and

WHEREAS, with the aim of expanding its good work in recovery-focused education and advocacy, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project, like its national affiliate, is working to build an effective constituency seeking to influence public policy promoting solutions to America's long-standing addiction crisis; and

WHEREAS, during the 2024 Session of the Legislature, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project successfully advocated for the passage of House Bill 1137, known as the "Mississippi Harm Reduction Initiative," which revised existing state law to allow community organizations and high risk opioid overdose touchpoints to provide opioid antagonists to persons at risk of experiencing an opioid related overdose; and

WHEREAS, since 2024, increasing numbers of individuals throughout the state are being saved from opioid related death because of the administration of Narcan, made more accessible by the passage of House Bill 1137; and

WHEREAS, in furtherance of this mission, individuals whose lives have been immeasurably changed through recovery and those who still struggle, yet hope, for recovery - the "Faces of Recovery" - will engage legislators and advocate for the support of programs tailored to advance the benefits of recovery, thereby rehabilitating individuals in recovery into productive members of society; and

WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of organizations dedicated to improving the lives of fellow Mississippians such as the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project and to providing grassroots recovery support to individuals who have faced and successfully overcome the challenges of addiction:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby observe January 22, 2026, as "Face of Recovery - Recovery Day 2026" at the Mississippi State Capitol and encourage all interested stakeholders to acknowledge and celebrate the life changing programs it administers.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
