A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND RECOGNIZING GWENDOLYN H. DUNLAP FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION, AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON HER RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Gwendolyn H. Dunlap began working for the federal government in 1967 after graduating from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, and remained dedicated to the federal government for 45 years before recently retiring; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Dunlap began working for the federal government with the Department of Defense in 1967, and in 1968 she transferred to the Social Security Administration as a claims representative in the Gulfport District Office; and

     WHEREAS, upon demonstrating her exceptional talents as a field representative and an operations supervisor, Ms. Dunlap was selected to manage the newly established Biloxi office where she remained until her retirement; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Dunlap, as an energetic and dynamic leader, is known by many city officials and citizens of Biloxi as a familiar face through her countless hours spent communicating social security programs and benefits to the public during her tenure; and

     WHEREAS, the recipient of several awards and honors, Ms. Dunlap received citations from the Social Security Administration Commissioner and Regional Commissioner for her excellent performance in her position; and

     WHEREAS, as manager of the Biloxi office, Ms. Dunlap directed her office efficiently, having numerous honors bestowed upon them, including:  Office Excellence Award, Mississippi, Best Level II Office in 1999; Regional Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Performance, Dedication and Perseverance in Restoring Public Service During Hurricane Katrina Recovery in November 2005; and Regional Commissioner's Award for Office Excellence, Best Level Two Field Office in Fiscal Year 2006; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her years of dedication to the people of South Mississippi, Ms. Dunlap has been recognized as an Outstanding Young Leader of the State of Mississippi, an International Woman of the Month and an Iron Magnolia of the South by WLOX-TV; and

     WHEREAS, also known for her community and civic involvement, Ms. Dunlap has served as a member and officer of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Community Development Commission for the City of Gulfport, and was active in the Gulfport School District, and is a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to commend dedication to public service and to recognize the service of impressive individuals, such as Ms. Gwendolyn H. Dunlap, who has given great devotion to her community and to this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Ms. Gwendolyn H. Dunlap for her dedicated service to the Social Security Administration, and extend warmest wishes for a happy retirement and continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Dunlap and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
