A RESOLUTION COMMENDING GEORGE FERGUSON FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, George Ferguson will retire from state law enforcement after dedicating twenty-five years of dedicated and impeccable public service to the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, he is a native of Woodville, Mississippi, who graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, he began his career in state law enforcement in 1998, as a criminal investigator with the Mississippi Gaming Commission; and

     WHEREAS, in 2002, he began a new law enforcement journey by accepting a position with the Mississippi Office of the Attorney General as a criminal investigator in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit under Attorney General Mike Moore; and

     WHEREAS, George rose through the ranks in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, achieving the rank of Chief Investigator before his retirement from the Office of the Attorney General in November of 2022; and

     WHEREAS, during the course of his impressive career, George Ferguson aided in the recovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars of fraudulently obtained Medicaid payments through criminal prosecutions and civil settlements; and

     WHEREAS, George conducted investigations leading to the criminal conviction of Medicaid providers causing harm to their patients; and

     WHEREAS, using his leadership skills, he has provided extensive training and education to Medicaid providers, health care workers and administrators over the years; and

     WHEREAS, George has worked closely with the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Inspector General to ensure federal grant monies were appropriately budgeted and spent by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit; and

     WHEREAS, George is a noble representation of the best Mississippi's law enforcement has to offer; and

     WHEREAS, he has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife, Wanda; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to celebrate public servants who have served this state with pride and commitment upon their retirement:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend George Ferguson for his many years of dedicated service as a state law enforcement officer, and congratulate him upon his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to George Ferguson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
