A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE NOAL AKINS FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Noal Akins has served the citizens of House District 12, Lafayette County, for eight years; and

     WHEREAS, Noal Akins was elected in the 2003 statewide general election and was sworn into office on January 6, 2004, at the commencement of the 2004 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Akins, a resident of Oxford, Mississippi, was born August 21, 1938, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, and after he graduated from Buena Vista High School, attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College, where he earned an associate of arts degree, before transferring to Delta State College, where he earned a bachelor of science in education before he matriculated further to subsequently earn a master of science in education from the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, having answered the call to service long before entering the political arena, Representative Akins was an educator and a coach for several years, and since his inaugural legislative term in 2004, he has provided his constituents and the citizens of the State of Mississippi with extraordinary leadership and a strong commitment to excellence through an exemplary display of high moral character; and

     WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Coach" throughout the Legislature, Representative Akins currently serves the House as a member of the Education; Judiciary B; Judiciary En Banc; Juvenile Justice; and Universities and Colleges Committees; and

     WHEREAS, an astute businessman and member of the Mississippi Home Builders Association, Three Rivers Banking Board, Oxford Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Board of Oxford University Bank, Representative Akins has been lovingly supported in all of his endeavors by his daughter, Nicole Boyd, and his grandchildren, Isabelle and Spight; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Akins' congenial nature, constructive attitude and forthright manner have had a positive influence on all of those who have had the pleasure of working with this highly respected member of the House; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and express deepest appreciation to Representative Noal Akins for his many outstanding contributions to the legislative process and the people of the State of Mississippi and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Akins and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
