A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING DIRECTOR JOHN B. MILLER UPON THE SPECIAL OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BILOXI POLICE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, Director John B. Miller is being honored and celebrated upon the special occasion of his retirement after thirty-five years of outstanding service with the Biloxi Police Department; and
WHEREAS, blessed with an innate spirit to serve, Director Miller was appointed Director of Police in December 2009, after working his way up through the ranks, holding the positions of Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain; and
WHEREAS, Director Miller's affiliations include: serving as the Board Chairman of the Regional Organized Crime Information Center; former President of the Gulf Coast Center for Non-Violence and the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police; former President of the Harrison County Emergency Communications Commission; member of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force; the Attorney General's Mental Health Task Force; past Keesler Air Force Base Honorary Commander; and he currently serves on the Board for High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Director Miller's professional conduct and devotion to law enforcement has been evident through his thirty-five years of public service; and
WHEREAS, Director Miller attended the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy, where he graduated first in his class, and he also attended the Drug Enforcement Agency Training Academy; and
WHEREAS, some of Director Miller's honors and awards include: the Medal of Merit; Medal of Valor; two Distinguished Service Medals; Victim's Advocate Award from the Gulf Coast Victims' Rights Coalition; the Jane Philo Award of Excellence from the Gulf Coast Center for Non-Violence; and the Mississippi Crime Stoppers Lifetime Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, outside of his exceptional leadership with the Biloxi Police Department, Director Miller married Vondell Ware Miller in 1987, and together they raised two children, Gretchen and Wesley, and have been blessed with five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor Director John B. Miller upon his retirement from the Biloxi Police Department, as his rich legacy of service will forever be treasured, by not only his fellow officers, but also by the citizens of Biloxi who were blessed by his leadership as he fulfilled his duty to protect and serve:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby honor and commend Director John B. Miller upon the special occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Director John B. Miller, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
