A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MR. SCOTT STRICKLIN UPON BEING NAMED THE 2015-2016 NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGIATE DIRECTORS OF ATHLETICS "ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR".

     WHEREAS, Mr. Scott Stricklin, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and Mississippi State University's Director of Athletics, will be recognized June 15, 2016, by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, as a member of the 2015-2016 Athletic Director of the Year Class; and

     WHEREAS, in order to be considered for this prestigious award, each athletic director must have served for at least five years at their institution, in addition to having demonstrated a commitment to higher education and to student-athletes, as well as demonstrating loyalty, excellence, and possessing the ability to inspire others to high levels of accomplishments; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Stricklin's exceptional leadership has led Mississippi State Athletics to new heights on and off the field, while many Mississippi State sports teams have achieved unprecedented success under his tenure, attendance records have similarly reached unparalleled heights, both football and women's basketball teams witnessed new attendance records in their 2015 season respectively; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to unparalleled athletic success on and off the field, Mr. Stricklin has also led Mississippi State University athletes to success in the classroom with the 2015 Mississippi State student-athletes achieving the highest grade point average in the school's history; and

     WHEREAS, promoting a culture of innovative marketing, Mr. Stricklin has emphasized the importance of social media in connecting fans with Mississippi State Athletics; he launched the first emoji keyboard in college sports during the 2015 football season; and   

     WHEREAS, a result of many years of hard work and dedication to the students of Mississippi State University, Mr. Stricklin has always placed the good of the student-athletes at the forefront of all other considerations, serving as a tremendous leader and an exceptional example for people of all walks of life; and

     WHEREAS, evidencing a zealous commitment to uphold the integrity of each student-athlete equally as much as his desire to build a winning infrastructure of athletics, Mr. Stricklin's selection as recipient of this most prestigious honor places him in the annals of Bulldog history as the first Mississippi State University Athletic Director to receive the honor and only one of five Southeastern Conference Athletic Directors to be chosen in the award's 17-year history; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend and congratulate individuals like Mississippi State University Athletic Director Scott Stricklin, who has proven to be an exceptional leader and a valuable asset to the State of Mississippi, and through many years of hard work, his dedication to Mississippi State University Athletics has brought great honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mississippi State University Athletic Director Scott Stricklin upon being named National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics 2015-2016 Athletic Director of the Year and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mississippi State Athletic Director Scott Stricklin, Mississippi State University President Dr. Mark E. Keenum and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
