A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JOHN C. POELMA II FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, John C. Poelma II, a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of his distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, the Instructor of the Year award honors a recipient chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Poelma, who received his bachelor of science degree from Park College, a master of science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and currently is in pursuit of a doctoral degree, has served Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as an instructor of Electronics Technology for the past 11 years of his 14-year teaching career; and
WHEREAS, a member of the United States Air Force Reserve, First Sergeant 403rd Aeromedical Staging Squadron, National Technical Honor Society, Mississippi Faculty Association and Skills USA Professional Member/Advisor, Mr. Poelma is equally as zealous in his commitment to educating the students enrolled in his courses at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as he is to serving this great nation of the United States in his military capacity; and
WHEREAS, for his unresolved commitment to educating those students under his tutelage, Mr. Poelma has received numerous honors and recognitions, including the Annual Community College Lamplighter Conference Award, Keesler Air Force Base Military Instructor of the Quarter Award, and remains engaged in the civic and community activities of the area through his service with Center Stage Theatre, Biloxi Little Theatre, Knights of Columbus 9094, and as Lector and Eucharistic Minister of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Mr. Poelma, who has dedicated his career to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate John C. Poelma II, for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to John C. Poelma II and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
