A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KAREN FAYARD FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Karen Fayard, a resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Karen Fayard, a mathematics instructor, has been employed at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 19 years and has taught for the past 37 years; and
WHEREAS, Karen Fayard received her bachelor of science, master of mathematics education and specialist in mathematics education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Karen Fayard is a member of the Campus Faculty Association; named Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics College Instructor of the Year; member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Co-Director of Summer Institute for Mathematics; Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, State Second Vice President; received the Mississippi Delta Kappa Gamma Achievement Award; and is currently serving as State First Vice President; and
WHEREAS, Karen Fayard is a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, the Krewe of Hera Mardi Gras Krewe, the Billikins Mardi Gras Krewe, and she is an avid reader; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding teachers, such as Karen Fayard, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Karen Fayard for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Karen Fayard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
