A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC SCHOOL LADY BRUINS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH DWAYNE DEMMIN UPON WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A/2A/3A GIRLS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the St. Joseph Catholic School Lady Bruins Soccer Team finished the 2014-2015 season with an outstanding 17 victories and emerged as the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A/2A/3A Girls Soccer State Championship title holders; and

WHEREAS, being incredibly well disciplined young ladies, the Lady Bruins performed extremely well in the state playoffs because they constantly played with clear eyes, full hearts, and unimaginable amounts of strength, and on February 7, 2015, in a stellar defensive performance, the Lady Bruins Soccer Team defeated the South Pontotoc High School Cougars Soccer Team with a score of 3-0 in the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A Soccer State Championship game at Clinton High School's Arrow Field in Clinton, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, after a remarkable season and an incredible championship game against South Pontotoc, the Lady Bruins reigned supreme yet again and claimed their second MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A Soccer State Championship in school history and first since 2006; and

WHEREAS, as many veterans of the game have said, "Defense wins championships," this age-old saying defined the immaculate strategy and skill of the Lady Bruins defense, as St. Joseph did not allow a single goal throughout the entire playoffs, and had victories over Sacred Heart and Our Lady Academy, two teams that, combined, won the last five MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A State Soccer Championships; and

WHEREAS, while the defense's grit, fortitude and determination erected a stone wall that helped secure the championship victory, Allie Milner, Katlyn Hannake and Joanna Bellan, whose dedication and athletic prowess helped them become game changers during the championship match, all scored goals to help achieve the revered title crown for the Lady Bruins; and

WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Lady Bruins, who are bursting with wit and athleticism, faced off with some of the state's best contenders on the pitch, but persevered to make their presence and talent known as gladiators of soccer under the stadium's twinkling lights; and

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Lady Bruins team's statistics were impressive, and there were outstanding headers, strikes, penalty kicks and goals by individual players, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

WHEREAS, playing with nothing but heart and soul all season, the St. Joseph Catholic School Lady Bruins have a very talented and distinguished roster, which ultimately catapulted them to winning their second state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bruins have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Dwayne Demmin, who has broadened the Bruins' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Demmin continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays and by the team's successful season; and

WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Bruins have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to St. Joseph Catholic School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Joseph Catholic School Lady Bruins Soccer Team and Head Coach Dwayne Demmin upon winning the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A/2A/3A Girls Soccer State Championship and extend best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Dwayne Demmin and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
