House Concurrent Resolution 70
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULFPORT HIGH SCHOOL ADMIRALS BOYS SOCCER TEAM, COACHED BY CECIL HINDS, UPON WINNING THE 2010 6A MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on February 6, 2010, the Gulfport High School Admirals Boys Soccer Team captured the 2010 6A Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Admirals won their first ever state title under the astute guidance of Head Coach Cecil Hinds and Assistant Coaches Henrik Madsen and Fredy Clavijo, and completed the 2010 season with a superb record of 16-1-2; and
WHEREAS, the Admirals credit the inspiration for this year's state championship victory to their thorny loss to Clinton in the 2009 5A title game; and
WHEREAS, in the 2010 6A championship game, the Admirals defeated the Northwest Rankin Cougars 1-0 in a thrilling victory at the Clinton High School stadium; and
WHEREAS, in the second half of the game, the Admirals forced the tempo while spending most of the 40 minutes on the Cougars' end of the field; and
WHEREAS, the Admirals had several scoring opportunities in the game, including two free kicks and two corner kicks, only to come up empty handed through the 70th minute mark; and
WHEREAS, not allowing the past to get in the way of success this time, the Admirals kept pounding away and their hard work eventually paid off; and
WHEREAS, faced with an all important throw-in with only six minutes left in the title game, Philip Bertucci found Jarred Arde open in front of the goal, and in a heroic manner, Arde leaped up, turned his body in a sacrificial effort for his team and scored off a header to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead that eventually was the final score; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Admirals also won the South State Region, which is another first for Gulfport High School; and
WHEREAS, turning young boys into men, the Gulfport High School boys soccer program's future is bright with Coach Hinds at the helm with the capable assistance of Coaches Madsen and Clavijo; and
WHEREAS, through years of perseverance and determination and support from the community, the Gulfport High School Boys Soccer Team has earned a reputation for excellence, courage and precision; and
WHEREAS, Coach Hinds' wisdom and relentless preparation have equipped all of his soccer players well for the sometimes inequitable challenges that they will all face throughout life; and
WHEREAS, many of the Gulfport High School soccer players participate in more than one sport, thus having to balance not only school work during the day, but also multiple training sessions beginning as soon as the school day ends; and
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of these stellar athletes is not only a clear indication of their outstanding athletic ability, dedication and hard work, but also their drive and determination to be the best, not only on the field but also in the classroom, which brings improvements in the quality of higher education in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Gulfport High School soccer team is comprised of a remarkable squad that includes: Seniors Jarred Arde, Philip Bertucci, Erik Dries, Kenny Hudson, Tyler Nichols, Justin Rose, Agustin Volpi and Zach Windom; Juniors David Bertucci, Joel Culpepper, Jake Ladner, Cameron Peranich, Nathan Powell, Ali Shenas, Julian Wilkey, Zach Taylor and Jacob Norman; Sophomores Ryland Alewine, Kyle Beard, Aubrey Gill, Danny Jester, Tai McFadden, Hunter Myrick, Robert Temple, Antony Liberator, Austin Douglas, Stephen Brahchle and Philippe Dupont; Freshmen Robbie Barnes, Josh Cumberland, Zach Cupp, Tyler Hardaway, Kyle Ladner, Omar Parra, Jonathan Norman, Joel Powell and Trey Wesson; and Manager Kendall Noble; and
