House Concurrent Resolution 68
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. ROBIN LYONS ON BEING NAMED INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE PERKINSTON CAMPUS OF MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.
WHEREAS, Ms. Robin Lyons, an English instructor and Chair of the Language Arts Department at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, has been named Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; and
WHEREAS, established by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, the award is presented to an outstanding educator chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and
WHEREAS, Robin Lyons, a traditional classroom and online instructor for the past 16 years who has taught at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 10 years, was selected to receive the award in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Vancleave, Mississippi, Robin Lyons earned her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in English from the University of Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her tireless efforts in the classroom to help individual students successfully grasp concepts being studied, Robin Lyons has worked to better the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College by serving on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Planning Council and the Instructional Affairs Council and by presiding over the 2013 Creative Writing Awards Competition; and
WHEREAS, Robin Lyons, a Deacon at Vancleave Church of Christ, has been the deserving recipient of other notable awards in the past, including the Humanities Teacher Award and the William Winter Scholar Award; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to pay special recognition to exceptional teachers such as Robin Lyons, an extraordinarily talented educator who has dedicated her career to teaching and bettering the lives of young Mississippians, who are the future of our state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Robin Lyons on being selected Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Robin Lyons, the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
