A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING KARELL DAMPEER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS SERGEANT-AT-ARMS FOR THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WHEREAS, after many years of providing dedicated and zealous service to the Mississippi House of Representatives and the entire constituency of the 122 elected members which comprise the House's body, Karell Dampeer will retire from public service as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Mississippi House of Representatives, where he has become a synonymous fixture on the West Wing of the Mississippi State Capitol's third floor, after having first begun his prestigious career on October 12, 1998; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation, Mr. Dampeer furthered his education by attending Jackson State University as a student-athlete on a football scholarship where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dampeer began his employment with the Mississippi House of Representatives on October 12, 1998, as an Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, and in September 2003, he was promoted to Sergeant-at-Arms (Chief Enforcement Officer) for the Mississippi House of Representatives at the age of 29, making him the youngest House Sergeant-at-Arms in the United States; and

WHEREAS, outside of his outstanding tenure as Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr. Dampeer has two sons, Deztany (Kim) and Miles, one granddaughter, Amina, and one sister, Kathy Dampeer Pittman, and he is a dedicated member of Magee First Baptist Church in Magee; and

WHEREAS, a stellar employee and a proven invaluable asset, Mr. Dampeer's exceptional performance and duty to serve has never waivered from the date of his initial hire until his decision to conclude his prestigious career with the House; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge extraordinary Mississippians such as Mr. Dampeer, one we are proud to call our own, whose daily presence in the halls of the Capitol will be sorely missed, but whose legacy of selflessness, hard work and dedication has made an indelible mark on the Mississippi House of Representatives and all those who have been privileged to know and work with him:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the esteemed career and public service that Karell Dampeer rendered to the citizens of Mississippi as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Mississippi House of Representatives, congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from public service and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
