House Concurrent Resolution 57

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HOME OF GRACE UPON CELEBRATING ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF POSITIVELY CHANGING LIVES.

     WHEREAS, Home of Grace is celebrating its 50th Anniversary Homecoming on March 14, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Home of Grace was founded in January 1965, under the direction of the late Reverend Bill Barton, Sr., who hoped that his efforts would make a positive impact on individuals who needed help on the path to recovery; and

     WHEREAS, Home of Grace is founded upon Christian principles, focusing on the Biblical virtues of truth, honor, integrity, respect, faith and disciplined living; and

     WHEREAS, since 1965, Home of Grace has served over 35,000 individuals who were dependent on alcohol or drugs; and

     WHEREAS, in 1967, Home of Grace established the Women's Recovery Program in Gautier, Mississippi, to help provide better counseling in a manner that is specific to women; and

     WHEREAS, in 1994, Home of Grace collaborated with the Pascagoula Adult Learning Center giving residents the opportunity to earn their GED while enrolled in the recovery program so that they may continue their success in life long after they leave; and

     WHEREAS, in 1997, Home of Grace opened an on-campus medical clinic at the men's campus; and

     WHEREAS, in 2003, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new state of the art men's campus, relocating from the flood zone; and

     WHEREAS, the success of Home of Grace is made possible because of the many faithful volunteers and financial supporters; and

     WHEREAS, in 2015, Home of Grace has now experienced 50 years of miracles and hope to experience many more; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding organizations that constantly strive to help improve the lives of the people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Home of Grace upon its 50th Anniversary Homecoming, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of its future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Home of Grace and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
