A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHEER TEAM FOR ITS MULTIPLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND CONTINUED EXCELLENCE AT THE 2026 UCA AND UDA COLLEGE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA.

WHEREAS, the Northwest Mississippi Community College Cheer Team, under the outstanding leadership of Head Coach Brandon Casey and Assistant Coach Rainy Bordelon, has once again demonstrated elite competitive excellence by earning multiple top finishes at the 2026 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, held in Orlando, Florida; and

WHEREAS, at the 2026 national competition, the Northwest Cheer Team captured 1st place in the Open Co-Ed Game Day division, securing a back-to-back national championship in the division and reaffirming the program's dominance on the national stage; and

WHEREAS, the Northwest Cheer Team also earned a 1st place finish in the Open All-Girl Cheer division, achieving a three-peat national championship, an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects sustained excellence, discipline, and competitive consistency; and

WHEREAS, the team further added to its national success by earning a 1st place finish in the Open Small Coed Cheer division, showcasing the depth, versatility, and talent across the program; and

WHEREAS, the Northwest Cheer Team also recorded a 2nd place national finish in the Open All-Girl Game Day division, underscoring the team's ability to compete at the highest level across multiple competitive formats; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Head Coach Brandon Casey, the Northwest Mississippi Community College Cheer program has now achieved nine national championships, establishing itself as one of the most successful collegiate cheer programs in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the achievements of the Northwest Cheer Team reflect the hard work, dedication, teamwork, and character of its student-athletes, while bringing significant pride and recognition to Northwest Mississippi Community College and to the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the continued success of the Northwest Cheer Team is a testament to the unwavering support of its coaches, families, college administration and the entire Northwest Ranger community; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence in collegiate athletics, particularly when student-athletes bring distinction, honor, and national recognition to their institution and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Mississippi Community College Cheer Team for its outstanding achievements at the 2026 UCA and UDA College National Championships, including back-to-back and three-peat national championship performances, and extend best wishes for continued success in all future competitions.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Brandon Casey, Assistant Coach Rainy Bordelon, Northwest Mississippi Community College President Dr. Michael Heindl, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
