House Concurrent Resolution 32

(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LIFE, LEGACY AND SERVICE OF MR. CAYLE "CASEY" COLEMAN, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. Cayle "Casey" Coleman, to eternal rest, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the City of Jackson lost a wonderful friend, distinguished citizen and community icon on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, with the passing of Mr. Coleman, affectionately referred to by those dearest to him as "Casey," who was born on October 17, 1944, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to his late parents, George and Rosia Adams Coleman; and

WHEREAS, from his humble beginnings in Attala County and subsequently in rural Neshoba County in the town of Stallo, Mississippi, "Casey" and his twin brother, Calvin, were raised by their aunt, who embedded in them the importance of education in order to succeed in life and establish a firm foundation for their family; and

WHEREAS, intrigued with music, Mr. Coleman played trumpet in the band at Louisville Colored High School, and upon graduating he evidenced his loyalty and patriotism for this country by enlisting in the United States Army, to which he devoted six years of exceptionally meritorious service from 1964-1970 as a military policeman and two years in Vietnam, for which his valor and camaraderie allowed him to be honored with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to the building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of his life by the Great Deity, Mr. Coleman's love, chivalry and affection pierced the heart of the former Ms. Mary Lee Hoskins, whom he met as a third grader, and the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony in 1968, and forging a lifetime of memories as husband and wife, best friends and parents to their three children that spanned the course of more than four decades; and

WHEREAS, after completing his military service to these United States, Casey returned to Jackson, Mississippi, where he began working part-time for the United Parcel Service (UPS), while being simultaneously enrolled at Jackson State University where he tirelessly endeavored to balance work life, school requirements and the demands of being a husband and father to his family while advancing toward the attainment of his baccalaureate degree, which he successfully accomplished in 1974, when he earned his bachelor of arts degree in industrial arts, and subsequent thereto, acquired full-time employment with Sperry-Vickers (now Eaton) and remained in their employ for 36 years before retiring; and

WHEREAS, a God-fearing Christian before all other roles he assumed, a devoted husband and caring father next, and always the community champion, Mr. Coleman, who joined Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1972, possessed the ambitious spirit akin to that of King David, as he was a man after God's own heart, who remained committed to kingdom-building through his service as a Deacon since his ordination on May 27, 1990, and serving as a Sunday School teacher, male chorus member, Boy Scouts troop leader, kitchen assistant and was one of the visionaries and founding members of the Young Adult Fellowship (now Fellowship Choir); and

WHEREAS, Casey shared a passion for repairing automobiles, fishing, football and softball, which was carried over in the joy and excitement he received while coaching a little league baseball team at Grove Park for many years, and being a die-hard Jackson State University Tigers Football fan, not daring to miss a single game, home or away, until recently; and

WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, the legacy of Mr. Coleman's memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors:  devoted wife of 46 years, Mary H. Coleman; children, Cayle Marcus Coleman, Crystal Coleman Williams and Arqullas Canetra Coleman; nephew, Kevin Brown; three grandchildren, Caylee Mikhail Coleman, and twins, Cameron and Cohen Williams; brother, George Clarence Coleman; stepsisters, Gloria Cotton, Rose Siggers, Charlotte Wingo and Patricia Little; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the life of such a remarkably selfless and caring individual as Mr. Coleman, whose life was an impassioned beacon of inspiration to all as he imparted his life's light of wisdom into the lives of all he encountered along this earthly sojourn:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss, commemorate the life and legacy of Mr. Cayle "Casey" Coleman, the soul mate and helpmate of our dear friend and colleague, the Honorable Representative Mary H. Coleman, and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Honorable Representative Mary H. Coleman, to be cherished on behalf of the Coleman Family and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
