House Concurrent Resolution 135
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SOUTHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL CHARGERS JUNIOR VARSITY COED CHEERLEADING TEAM FOR WINNING THE NATIONAL TITLE IN THEIR DIVISION.
WHEREAS, the Southaven High School Chargers Junior Varsity Coed Cheerleading Team competed in the national competition in Orlando, Florida, winning the national championship in their division; and
WHEREAS, the team competes at the junior varsity level because they are new to the coed format of competition, making their national title all the more impressive; and
WHEREAS, in competing at the varsity level in state competitions, the Chargers won second place in the State of Mississippi, an accomplishment worthy of high commendation; and
WHEREAS, the Southaven High School Junior Varsity Cheerleaders have been superbly coached by Head Coach Amy Cobb, who has refined their skills in execution, acrobatics and dance; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cobb proudly states, "The biggest thing that sets these kids apart is commitment. They have to not only have a love for the sport but work hard after practice, work out at home and run at home."; and
WHEREAS, these young people have practiced and worked together for many hours in the pursuit of excellence and have shown a high degree of sportsmanship while representing the State of Mississippi on the national level; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, such as the Southaven High School Junior Varsity Cheerleaders, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Southaven High School Chargers Junior Varsity Coed Cheerleading Team for winning the national title in their division and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all of their academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Southaven High School, Head Coach Amy Cobb and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
