A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS CORPORAL JACOB WOOLEY WHO DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Corporal Jacob Wooley from Corinth, Mississippi, lost his life while serving our country at Marine Corps Base Quantico in northern Virginia on March 21, 2013; and
WHEREAS, friends and colleagues say that Corporal Wooley, who always wanted to be a Marine, was an amazing young man with a big heart who could bring laughter into any setting; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Wooley joined the Marines in February 2010, serving as a field radio operator until he was promoted to corporal in 2012 and during his service he was stationed at Okinawa, Japan, and he spent time in Thailand and the Philipines before his assignment to Quantico as part of the staff at the officer candidate school; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Wooley received the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon during his exemplary service to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Wooley was a warm-hearted country boy loved by many who attended Alcorn Central High School and Northeast Mississippi Community College before joining the Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, Jacob was a member of Central Pentecostal Church in Corinth where he had begun preaching before joining the Marine Corps and he had planned to dedicate his life to God and become a minister at the end of his enlistment; and
WHEREAS, the Jacob Wooley Memorial Scholarship at Mississippi State University is being established by his family to honor his legacy and his love for Mississippi State University; and
WHEREAS, to a country, a fallen soldier means a national loss; to a community, a fallen soldier means a true hero; and to a parent, a fallen soldier means a son who will not be coming home; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the unselfish service of this great American and Mississippian, who was the guardian of civilization as we know it today and it is with great pride and humility that we honor the life and legacy of Marine Corps Corporal Jacob Wooley:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby remember the gallant service and mourn the loss of United States Marine Corps Corporal Jacob Wooley of Corinth, Mississippi, who died in the line of duty on March 21, 2013, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to the family of Corporal Jacob Wooley and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
