A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE DEDICATED SERVICE OF THE LADIES OF THE JUNIOR AUXILIARY OF CORINTH AND COMMENDING THEIR ORGANIZATION UPON THE OCCASION OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR CHARITY BALL.

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 31, 2012, the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth hosted their annual charity ball, and 2012 marked the 50th anniversary of this widely popular event, which was hosted at the Shiloh Ridge Golf Club in Corinth, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in honoring fifty years of service to the City of Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi, and in timeless celebratory fashion, the theme for this year's event was "Golden Gala" to mark the momentous golden anniversary of the charity ball; and

     WHEREAS, the annual event is the only fundraising event of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth for the entire year, and the ball generates enough support to sustain the organization's many community service projects throughout the year; and

     WHEREAS, at the ball, members of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth and guests may participate in the tremendously popular silent auction, as well as partake in enjoying a fabulous dinner and dancing after the auction; and

     WHEREAS, prior to the charity ball, members throughout the community can nominate a citizen of the community to be selected by a Junior Auxiliary of Corinth panel to receive the organization's Outstanding Citizen of the Year award, which is awarded to someone in the community who has made an outstanding effort to serve and who is an outstanding member of the community; and

     WHEREAS, at this year's Golden Gala charity ball, Havis Hurley was selected as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth; and

     WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth is a service organization for local women, and it is affiliated with the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, which is an organization that boasts a membership of over 12,000 women across seven states; and

     WHEREAS, the funds that are contributed to the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth at the annual charity ball remain in the City of Corinth and Alcorn County and finance various projects of the local chapter; and

     WHEREAS, the service emphasis of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth is on children, and each year, the organization provides:  sleepers and blankets to babies born at Magnolia Regional Health Center; new school clothes to approximately 250 needy children; and approximately 15 scholarships to local students needing financial assistance to further their education; and

     WHEREAS, in their dedication to serving children, members of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth host a week-long, arts-based camp each summer for special needs children in their region; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the dedication and service of the citizens of this state, such as the ladies of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth, who give of themselves to better the lives of the children of this great state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the dedication to service and community, of the ladies of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth and congratulate them upon the 50th anniversary of their charity ball, and extend our sincerest wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the ladies of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth, the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
