MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE

House Bill 939

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-147-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE AND CLARIFY THE COMPOSITION OF THE MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AUTHORITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 37-147-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     37-147-7.  The authority shall be composed of * * *the following members:  five (5) an odd number of members, said number to be determined and appointed by the board from among the * * *chief research officers of the eight (8) institutions of higher learning and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, to serve at the will and pleasure of the board; the vice president of the board during the term of his office; the Director of the * * *Department of Economic and Community Development Mississippi Development Authority, or his designee; * * *the President of the Mississippi Resource Development Corporation, a nonprofit corporation organized and operating under the laws of the State of Mississippi; and the Commissioner of Higher Education as an ex officio, nonvoting member.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2024.
