AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES SHALL COMPILE AND MAINTAIN A DATABASE OF INFORMATION ON NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVING PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE FOOD ITEMS AND MEALS TO THE ELDERLY AND OTHER NEEDY PERSONS; TO PROVIDE THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE DATABASE IS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT THESE PROGRAMS TO PERSONS WHO ARE ON A WAITING LIST FOR HOME-DELIVERED MEALS THAT ARE PROVIDED TO THE ELDERLY THROUGH THE DIVISION OF AGING AND ADULT SERVICES OF THE DEPARTMENT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Department of Human Services shall compile and maintain a database of information on nonprofit, religious and other nongovernmental organizations in the state that have programs of providing food items and meals to the elderly and other needy persons.  The purpose of the database is to provide information about these programs to persons who are on a waiting list for home-delivered meals that are provided to the elderly through programs of the Division of Aging and Adult Services of the department.  The department shall provide a list of those organizations, together with location and contact information, to persons who are on a waiting list with the department for home-delivered meals, so that those persons may obtain needed food items and meals while waiting to be included in the programs provided by the department.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
