House Bill 453

AN ACT TO REPEAL SECTIONS 99-19-20 and 99-19-20.1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, WHICH PROVIDE OPTIONS, INCLUDING PROHIBITION OF INCARCERATION, FOR NONPAYMENT OF FEES AND FINES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 99-19-20, Mississippi Code of 1972, which provides options in lieu of payment or imprisonment for fines, is repealed.

     SECTION 2.  Section 99-19-20.1, Mississippi Code of 1972, which prohibits incarceration from automatically following nonpayment of fines, is repealed.

     SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
