House Bill 105

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO STORE ALL TRAFFIC CAMERA FOOTAGE FOR A PERIOD OF 24 HOURS BEFORE DELETING FROM SYSTEM; TO PROVIDE THAT STORED TRAFFIC CAMERA FOOTAGE SHALL ONLY BE USED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     Section 1.  (1)  The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall store or cause to be stored all footage from any traffic camera under their jurisdiction for a period of twenty-four (24) hours from the time of recording before deleting such footage from the traffic camera system.

     (2)  Any footage from a traffic camera stored in accordance with subsection (1) of this section shall only be used by law enforcement personnel for law enforcement purposes.

     (3)  The Mississippi Transportation Commission shall promulgate rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this section.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2016.
