Summary
An Act To Amend Section 37-17-6, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Prescribe The Nature Of Administrative Sanctions To Be Imposed Upon Public School Districts That Have Their Accreditation Withdrawn For Failure To Meet Accreditations And Accountability Standards; To Limit The Travel Of Superintendents In Affected School Districts To Only That Mandated By Law Or Prescribed By The State Department Of Education; To Limit The Travel Of The Members Of The Local School Board In Affected School Districts To Only That Mandated By Law Or Prescribed By The State Department Of Education, And To Reduce Those Members' Compensation By One-half; To Provide That The State Board Of Education And The Commission On School Accreditation May Recommend That The Governor Declare A State Of Emergency In A School District If Fifty Percent Or More Of The Schools In The District Are Designated As Failing In Any One Year; To Amend Section 37-17-13, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Prohibit Any Individual Serving In Any Administrative Leadership Capacity In A School District Designated To Be Abolished After The Governor Declares A State Of Emergency Therein From Serving In Any Like Capacity For The Newly Reconstituted, Reorganized Or Altered School District After The State Of Emergency Is Declared By The Governor To No Longer Exist; To Repeal Section 37-17-15, Which Allows The Commission On School Accreditation To Withdraw A School District's Accreditation For Reasons Other Than Failure To Meet Academic Standards Or Failure To Comply With Financial Accountability Requirements; And For Related Purposes.
