Summary
An Act To Create The "mississippi Educator Dyslexia Awareness Act Of 2021"; To Require Each Licensed Educator Applying For The Renewal Of His Or Her Educator's License, Beginning With The 2021-2022 Academic Year, To Present Documentation To The State Department Of Education Evidencing The Completion Of A Certain Number Of Continuing Education Units (ceus), In-service Professional Development Training Hours Or Graduate-level Instruction In Dyslexia Education Training, As A Condition Of Approval For License Renewal; To Require The Commission On Teacher And Administrator Education, Certification And Licensure And Development To Establish Guidelines For The Dyslexia Training Criteria Used In The Renewal Process; To Require That The Training Be Facilitated By A Mississippi Aa Licensed Dyslexia Therapist, Or An Individual Licensed In Another State Who Holds An Active License That Is Equivalent To Or More Enhanced Than Those Required For A Mississippi Aa Licensed Dyslexia Therapist; To Require All Ceus, Professional Development Or Graduate-level Instruction Submitted As A Dyslexia Education Training Component Of The Renewal Application To Adhere To The Knowledge And Practice Standards For Teachers Of Reading Approved By The International Dyslexia Association; To Provide That Such Courses Shall Be Instructed By A Dyslexia Therapist Licensed In Dyslexia Therapy And Who Holds National Certification As A Certified Academic Language Therapist (calt); To Require Such Courses To Include International Dyslexia Association Level 1 Standards A, B And C, As Provided In Section I Of The Knowledge And Practice Standards; To Amend Section 37-3-2, Mississippi Code Of 1972, In Conformity To Preceding Provisions; And For Related Purposes.
