Summary
An Act To Create The "diabetes Care For Mississippi Students Act," For The Purpose Of Requiring School Districts To Recognize Diabetes Medical Management Plan Developed By A Student's Diabetic Health Care Provider That Outlines The Health And Nutrition Services Required For The Management Of The Student's Diabetes Condition At School; To Provide That A Student May Perform Diabetes Monitoring And Treatment Functions In Designated Areas Of The School Upon The School's Receipt Of A Written Request From Such Student's Parent; To Exempt Professional School Personnel Who Conduct Training Of Volunteer School Personnel Or Other Volunteers Designated As Care Providers From Liability For Services Provided As Part Of A Student's Diabetes Medical Management Plan; To Require The Parent Or Guardian Of A Student With Diabetes To Submit A Diabetes Medical Management Plan To The Proper School Officials And Personnel Beginning With The 2021-2022 School Year; To Require School Districts To Maintain A Copy Of The Plan And A List Of Volunteer School Personnel Who Are Designated As Care Providers And Trained To Administer Glucagon, Insulin Or Both; To Require That The Annual Training Of Volunteer School Personnel Or Other Volunteers Designated As Care Providers Be Provided By A Licensed Registered Nurse Or Other Health Care Professional Approved By The School District; To Require The State Department Of Education And The State Department Of Health To Develop Any Training Programs Or Guidelines And Promulgate Any Rules Necessary To Administer The Act; And For Related Purposes.
