Summary

An Act To Amend Section 83-9-5, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Provide That If An Insured Provides An Insurer With Written Directions That The Benefits Provided By A Health Insurance Policy Be Paid To An In-network Health Care Provider Rendering Services, Then The Insurer Shall Pay Directly The Health Care Provider; To Provide That If The Insured Obtains Medical Services From An Out-of-network Provider And The Insured Assigns His Benefits To That Provider, The Commercial Insurer Shall Forward Payment By Check, Draft, Money Order Or Other Negotiable Instrument To The Provider Payable To Both The Provider And The Insured And Requiring The Endorsement Of Both; To Provide That Such Payment Shall Be Considered Payment In Full To The Provider, Who May Not Bill Or Collect From The Insured Any Amount Above That Payment, Other Than The Deductible, Coinsurance, Copayment Or Other Charges For Equipment Or Services Requested By The Insured That Are Noncovered Benefits; And For Related Purposes.
