Summary
An Act To Amend Section 37-181-5, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Revise The List Of Eligible Expenses That May Be Paid Using Funds In A Student's Education Scholarship Account (esa) Under The Equal Opportunity For Students With Special Needs Act By Requiring Tutors To Meet Certain Requirements In Order To Be Eligible For Reimbursement; To Amend Section 37-181-7, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Delete The Lottery Method Of Selecting Students For Participation In The Esa Program And To Establish Standards For Selecting Persons From The Waiting List; To Amend Section 37-181-9, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The State Department Of Education To Develop An Accountability System For The Esa Program And To Report To The Legislature On The Advisability Of Prohibiting Unexpended Amounts Remaining In The Program At The End Of A Fiscal Year From Lapsing Into The State General Fund; To Establish An Appeals Process For Certain Persons Aggrieved By Decisions Of The Department Relating To The Esa Program; To Amend Section 37-181-11, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Direct Payment Of Tuition To Schools And To Establish Standards For Tutors Providing Services To Esa Program Participants; And For Related Purposes.
