AN ACT

To amend chapter 9, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the designation of children's day in Missouri.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 9, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 9.144, to read as follows:

9.144. 1. The governor shall issue annually a proclamation setting apart the first Sunday in June, as proclaimed by President Bush in 2001, as "Children's Day" in Missouri and recommending to the people of the state that the day be appropriately observed by celebrating the lives, achievements, and freedoms of our children. Each adult should reflect on his or her own unique childhood and acknowledge that we must come together to ensure the safety and well-being of our children and work to provide them a responsible and prosperous future where they support the long cherished principles of liberty, freedom, and economic prosperity. We should also reflect on our responsibility to instill the following core values, such as honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, and citizenship, that will develop the character their child needs for future success. Missouri's children are a blessing from our Creator and on this day Missouri will show its appreciation of their role in our lives today and their responsibilities as the future leaders of our state by working with communities to express our appreciation through appropriate ceremonies and activities that honor Missouri's children and nurture their character, abilities, and talents as they pursue their dreams.
