SECOND REGULAR SESSION

HOUSE COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

HOUSE BILL NO. 1720

97TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY

5617L.02C                                                                                                                                                 D. ADAM CRUMBLISS, Chief Clerk

AN ACT

To amend chapter 9, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the designation of ROHHAD awareness day.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 9, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 9.151, to read as follows:

9.151. May seventh shall be designated as "Reagann Duenne ROHHAD Awareness Day" in Missouri. Rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysfunction, hypoventilation and autonomic dyregulation presenting in childhood (ROHHAD) is a rare syndrome characterized by rapid-onset obesity in the first ten years of life, impairment of the autonomic nervous system, and later onset of reduced lung function. The cause of ROHHAD syndrome is unknown and currently there is no cure. Early diagnosis and proper management may help to avoid catastrophic consequences. It is recommended to the people of the state that this day be appropriately observed by participating in awareness and educational activities on the symptoms and impact of ROHHAD and to support programs which advance treatment, assist in the discovery of a cure, enhance the quality of life of ROHHAD children, and ease the financial burden of families of children suffering from ROHHAD.
