1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol for his extraordinary
1.3service.
1.4WHEREAS, those law enforcement officers who go above and beyond the call of duty in
1.5order to protect and serve the public are deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.6WHEREAS, on January 10, 2017, Marti Priest of Hopkins and her son Erik were involved
1.7in a rollover accident on Interstate 94 near Rothsay, Minnesota, after their Jeep came upon black
1.8ice and spun out of control, rolling into the roadway's center median; and
1.9WHEREAS, while seat belts and modern automotive engineering may have been the primary
1.10factors in initially preventing injury or worse, Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol
1.11arrived immediately on the scene and got Marti and Erik out of the wreckage area, due to the danger
1.12of being at the side of the road during black ice conditions; and
1.13WHEREAS, Sgt. Grabow arranged for a tow truck, took Marti and Erik to a warm truck
1.14stop to wait for their vehicle, assisted in retrieving their belongings, calmed Erik and bandaged a
1.15minor cut on his hand, determined the best place for them to spend the night so that they could get
1.16a rental car home to Hopkins, and then safely deposited Marti and Erik at a hotel with restaurants,
1.17Target, and a rental car company within walking distance; and
1.18WHEREAS, Marti overheard Sgt. Grabow calling his family to say he was going to be late,
1.19and he did not leave Marti and Erik's side until he was sure that the hotel had a room and that they
1.20were checked in and safe; Sgt. Grabow's quick thinking and compassionate actions prevented Marti
1.21and Erik from being frightened and disoriented in a region of Minnesota that they were unfamiliar
1.22with; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24thanks and commends Sgt. Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol for his calm, caring
2.1professionalism, and honors him for his actions that greatly helped to make a difference to citizens
2.2caught in a frightening situation.
2.3BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.4enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.5Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Sgt. Jesse Grabow of
2.6the Minnesota State Patrol.
