1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing May 11, 2018, as Family Childcare Provider Appreciation Day and May
1.3as the month of the Family Childcare Provider.
1.4WHEREAS, Minnesota has the second highest rate of working mothers in the nation, requiring
1.5quality child care that is both accessible and affordable; and
1.6WHEREAS, children need safe and loving environments to learn and grow while their
1.7parents work or attend school; and
1.8WHEREAS, approximately 8,300 licensed family childcare providers open their hearts and
1.9homes to Minnesota's children each day, offering an environment that meets the social, emotional,
1.10and cultural needs of the children and families they serve; and
1.11WHEREAS, Minnesota's licensed family childcare providers are dedicated professionals
1.12who operate small businesses that provide an invaluable service that is integral to the economic
1.13growth and prosperity of our state and communities; and
1.14WHEREAS, licensed family childcare providers make many personal sacrifices to provide
1.15the absolute best care to Minnesota's children, offering an exceptional early education that prepares
1.16them for school and life; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.18May 11, 2018, be recognized as Family Childcare Provider Appreciation Day and the month of
1.19May be recognized as the Month of the Family Childcare Provider. We call on Minnesotans to
1.20honor family childcare providers and thank them for the contributions they make to our children
1.21and our state.
