1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Dr. Bruce W. Stender for his contributions to higher education in Minnesota.
1.3WHEREAS, those members of the educational profession who work tirelessly in their
1.4communities perform an important service deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, from 1975 to 1981, Dr. Bruce W. Stender served as the first lay President of
1.6the College of St. Scholastica, the only independent college in the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota;
1.7and
1.8WHEREAS, Dr. Stender was named one of Ten Outstanding Minnesotans in 1978 in
1.9recognition of his numerous accomplishments as the president of the College of St. Scholastica;
1.10and
1.11WHEREAS, Dr. Stender's career with Labovitz Enterprises has included 25 years as President
1.12and CEO, as well as lengthy terms as Vice Chairman and a Principal; and
1.13WHEREAS, the University of Minnesota - Duluth Labovitz School of Business and
1.14Economics named Dr. Stender as Business Person of the Year in 2005; and
1.15WHEREAS, he served as Allete's first nonemployee Board Chair and as Lead Director; and
1.16WHEREAS, Dr. Stender served on the Blandin Foundation Board of Directors and the C.
1.17K. Blandin Residuary Trust for 24 years, including four years as Chair of the Foundation Board;
1.18and
1.19WHEREAS, Dr. Stender has made exceptional contributions to Minnesota's Arrowhead
1.20Region in higher education, business, and community leadership; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22recognizes Dr. Bruce W. Stender's commitment to Duluth and the Arrowhead Region and his
2.1successful careers in higher education and business, publicly acknowledged by the naming of
2.2Stender School of Business and Technology at the College of St. Scholastica in his honor.
2.3BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.4enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
2.5Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Dr. Bruce W. Stender.
