1.4requiring a report;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 161.44, by adding

1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 161.44, is amended by adding a
1.8subdivision to read:
1.9 Subd. 1a. Periodic review. (a) The commissioner shall examine all real property
1.10owned by the state and under the custodial control of the department to decide whether
1.11any real property may be declared as surplus and suitable for sale or some other means of
1.12disposal.
1.13(b) The commissioner shall report its findings under paragraph (a) to the house
1.14of representatives and senate committees with jurisdiction over transportation policy
1.15and finance by March 1 of each odd-numbered year. The report may be submitted
1.16electronically, and is subject to section 3.195, subdivision 1.
1.17(c) For purposes of this subdivision, "surplus" means real property that is no longer
1.18needed for state highway purposes, and that has not been used for state highway purposes
1.19for the previous five years.
