1.2relating to human services; requiring medical assistance to cover doula services;
1.3amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 256B.0625, by adding a subdivision.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 256B.0625, is amended by adding a
1.6subdivision to read:
1.7 Subd. 28b. Doula services. Medical assistance covers doula services provided by a
1.8certified doula as defined in section 148.995, subdivision 2, of the mother's choice. For
1.9purposes of this section, "doula services" means childbirth education and support services,
1.10including emotional and physical support provided during pregnancy, labor, birth, and
1.11postpartum.
1.12EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2014, or upon federal
1.13approval, whichever is later, and applies to services provided on or after the effective date.
