1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to local government; authorizing four-year terms for Grand Rapids
1.3Public Utilities Commission;amending Laws 1999, chapter 195, section 2.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Laws 1999, chapter 195, section 2, is amended to read:
1.6    Sec. 2. CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION;
1.7MEMBERSHIP.
1.8    (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 412.341, the city of Grand Rapids
1.9may by ordinance increase the Grand Rapids Public Utilities Commission membership
1.10to five members. The ordinance increasing the commission membership must provide
1.11for the initial terms of the additional members so that no more than two positions on the
1.12commission are open for appointment in any year.
1.13(b) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 412.341, subdivision 1, the city
1.14of Grand Rapids may by ordinance provide for four-year terms for members of the
1.15Grand Rapids Public Utilities Commission. The ordinance must provide for a transition
1.16to four-year terms so that no more than two positions on the commission are open for
1.17appointment in any year.
