1.1A resolution
1.2designating the Honor and Remember Flag as the State of Minnesota's emblem of the
1.3service and sacrifice by those in the United States armed forces who have given their
1.4lives in the line of duty; and urging Congress to pass a House Resolution to designate
1.5the Honor and Remember Flag for the same purpose.
1.6WHEREAS, while war deaths have been part of our heritage since the birth of this nation,
1.7the United States has not instituted an official symbol commemorating fallen members of our
1.8nation's armed forces; and
1.9WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag has been created by Honor and Remember,
1.10Inc. to officially recognize and honor fallen members of the United States armed forces; and
1.11WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's red field represents the brave men and
1.12women who sacrificed their lives for freedom; and
1.13WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's blue star is a symbol of active service in
1.14military conflict that dates back to World War I; and
1.15WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's white border recognizes the purity of
1.16sacrifice; and
1.17WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's gold star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a
1.18warrior in active service who will not return home and reflects the value of the life given; and
1.19WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's folded flag element highlights this nation's
1.20final tribute to a fallen serviceperson and a family's sacrifice; and
1.21WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's flame symbolizes the eternal spirit of the
1.22departed; and
2.1WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Minnesota calls for a unifying symbol
2.2recognizing this nation's solemn debt to the estimated 1.6 million fallen members of our nation's
2.3armed forces throughout history and the families and communities who mourn their loss; NOW,
2.4THEREFORE,
2.5BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota that the Honor and
2.6Remember Flag is designated the State of Minnesota's emblem of service and sacrifice by the
2.7brave men and women of the United States armed forces who have given their lives in the line of
2.8duty.
2.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the State of Minnesota urges
2.10Congress to pass a House Resolution to designate the Honor and Remember Flag for the same
2.11purpose.
2.12BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the State of Minnesota is
2.13directed to prepare copies of this memorial and transmit them to the President of the United States,
2.14the President and the Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker and the Clerk of the
2.15United States House of Representatives, the chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans, the chair
2.16of the House Committee on Veterans, and Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in Congress.
